reader question of the week #2

reader question of the week #2:

"My daughter is turning 5 and she has selected High-Five as her theme. We sent out invites that had pictures of her holding up her hand showing that she was "a whole hand old". Now I am working to come up with some clever decor and goodies and maybe a game or two. Our ideas so far include ordering some foam hands for kids to wear and pose for photos in. Taking impressions of her friends hands to send home as a goodie bag item. We are having a Sunday afternoon party with finger sandwiches of course! I would love to hear some more ideas for decorating, cake, and games. Thanks so much!! -Dayna"

If she likes monkeys - you could twist the theme to 5 little monkeys jumping on the bed and have both the 5 every where for her age and all the stuff that would go with the monkey theme. Best of luck!

You could make a craft of a tree using their hand. Precut brown rectangles for the trunk and then have party goers trace their hands on green paper, cut out hand, then glue. We used this idea in conjunction with Chicka-Chicka Boom Boom story and then the children use self adhesive letters.

You could play some type of game where they roll extra large dice, and if they get roll a five then the birthday girl could tell them to do an action (jumping, twirl around, hop on one foot, etc). You could do many variations of this game

Definitely get a large vintage metal sign that says "5" on it.

Since you're already having finger sandwiches you could add a tea party element. Lady finger cookies, petite 'fives', fancy gloves, diamond rings & mini-manicures for girls.
